The foundation of every great winter ride. Our Merino Winter Base Layer is designed to keep you warm when temperatures drop, comfortable when the effort rises, and dry when the conditions change.
Combining the natural performance of merino wool with a refined, close-to-body fit, it's the layer you put on first and forget about for the rest of the ride.
Merino wool is one of nature's finest performance materials, offering exceptional temperature regulation without the bulk of traditional winter insulation.
Its natural fibres help retain warmth in colder conditions while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape as intensity increases.
Naturally breathable, moisture-managing and odour-resistant, merino delivers comfort that lasts well beyond the first few hours in the saddle.
The result is a base layer that works with your body, not against it.
Designed to sit comfortably against the skin, the close-fitting construction creates an effective thermal foundation beneath your winter jersey or jacket.
Soft against the body and naturally adaptable to changing temperatures, it provides warmth without unnecessary weight or restriction.
From freezing early starts to long winter endurance rides, it's designed to keep you comfortable through changing conditions and varying intensities.
Merino wool construction for natural warmth and breathability
Excellent thermoregulation across changing temperatures and intensities
Natural moisture management to help maintain comfort during harder efforts
Odour-resistant fibres for lasting freshness on long days and multi-day adventures
Soft, comfortable feel against the skin for all-day wear
Close-to-body fit designed for seamless layering beneath winter kit
Premium merino base layers often carry premium price tags. Not necessarily because the materials are better, but because of the layers of cost built into traditional retail.
Wholesale margins, retail markups, distribution costs and seasonal discounting all contribute to the price you eventually pay.
Our membership model takes a different approach. By selling directly to our riders, we remove unnecessary layers between the product and the person wearing it.
The result is a premium merino base layer built around the things that matter: warmth, comfort, performance and longevity.
Natural performance. Premium quality. A different way of delivering it to you.

I've spent most of my life on a bike, and over the years I've worn just about every kind of cycling kit you can imagine. I've learned what works, what doesn't, and which details really make a difference after hours in the saddle.
I started Amo La Ruta because I wanted to take that experience and build something of my own. Clothing that's properly considered, made with excellent materials and designed around the needs of real riders.
I also believe great cycling kit should be more accessible. That's why we've taken a different approach to pricing, without lowering our expectations of the product itself.
We're still a small brand, and there's plenty more I want to build. But I'm proud of what we're creating, and I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as I've enjoyed developing it.
